So Im here at work, playing on the middle schools laptop...(yes its irritating to find the ` button, deal with it haha) and Im starting to realize Im not cut out for this job. I mean...Ive always been told as a kid that "youll become what you dislike the most when you grow up." I like teachers and all....but Ive always hated English. However, since the kids are funny, and Ive had my mind set on two years....Im pretty sure Ill do two years...the third year is debattable (well see how it all goes).

This is what my schedule is like:

Monday - Wednesday at the middle school and pretty much finding out the schedule of when I help teach English that monday.

Thursday at the elementary school (taught 5-6 grades last week), next thursday is the 3-4 grades, then the following week is the 1-2 grades....for only a 45 min class, I mean seriously....this is not enough time to each this group English. And then, like the teachers tell me that my pred (person before me) would give like 4 pieces of homework, when they would only like two pieces...this isnt enough. Especially, since theyre changing rules for learning English. So by this coming April, I suppose, English is mandatory for all elementary school students to start learning instead of middle school. So, this is going to be hard not being able to see them everyday and none of the teachers speak English....I seriously wonder how the people before me survived without knowning English.

Anywho went off track on that but Ill get back to that.

Friday, the first and third friday im at the Board of Education working from 830am to 10am, then playing with the kindergarteners from 10 to 11am, then returning back to the BoE from 11 to 1130am...and then Im done on Friday (35 hour week thats all Im suppose to do apparently, but I dont mind working since I am afterall a workhorse). Anywho the 2nd and 4th Friday, Im only at the BoE for the 3 hours (what Im suppose to do there...I dont really know, I mean the only things Ive done for them was play with the kids during the summer camp or translated a few documents.)

Back to the subject, where no one speaks English in the village...yeah thats right I said it VILLAGE (4000 people and nothin but rice fields as far as the eye can see). The only English speakers Ive met where two of the actual English teachers at the middle school (and even then its not perfect and having to speak really slow for them to understand). Other than that, my advisor at the BoE and coworkers were relieved that I understand Japanese (more or less, and able to somewhat speak back). But I do have to say that the Japanese is improving gradually since Ive come to the VILLAGE haha.

Anywho, school just started last week, including myself giving a speech to both the middle school and elementary school. And then, taught the 5-6 grades at the elementary school....I think this past week...Ive never really had a culture shock in Japan before until now. Now, its just more or less working through the barriers at work and trying to get use to school systems daily schedule.

For example, middle school, start at 810 am (be here for teachers morning announcements), each class is 45 or 50 mins (this depends on the day, I suppose). So after 4th period, they (students and staff prepare food (having it all set out already for youre SPECIFIC SEAT), or student/staff that arent parparing food have to clean the school). This is where it gets interesting, as some schools do back in the states they do daily announcements (mixed in with some random things as well, but the kids are free to do whatever they want = loud and crazy and all that jazz haha). However, when this is going on EVERYONE becomes silent and all you hear is the sound of people eating and listening to the announcements. After eating, students and staff at the table play rock, paper, sisscors in order to find out who has to take back that tables dishes and what not. If you dont eat everything on your plate theyll (typically the teachers) ask if your on a diet, "you should eat because its good for your health", or pretty much tell the students "you must eat it!" Its quite interesting...kinda weirded me out a bit...still kinda does...like seriously if Im full, Im seriously full (and I tend to have the smaller stomach as weird as that is). Anywho, 5 and 6th period roll around depending on the day, and then kids go off to their club activities (shotput/track&field/pingpong/high jump/ etc). And then, I go home by 455pm.

Now to talk about the house...its WAY TOO BIG, seriously little old me in like a 6 person house (tatami room, living room, dining room, kitchen, up and downstairs bathroom, three bedrooms upstairs and an office space. Oh and a garage....with all of this in mind...its still pretty surprising that I DONT PAY RENT, but only utilities for the house. The house it self...is quite scary at night...I really wish I didnt watch the japanese grudge 1 and 2 a long time ago...man something is just going to come crawling down the stairs or little boy meow at me.

Anywho...I think this is a super way long post...I think youre just lucky I havent been including what Ive been writing in my journal with the personal reflection haha...but anywho, l8rz

Less than two months away

So I haven't updated this in a pretty darn long time...so I figure I'll do it now.

Anywho taking back off for Japan August 2nd and will be in Tokyo from the 3rd to the 6th...after that I'm off to my placement in Niigata prefecture in the village of Kariwa (Half Moon Bay's sister city, apparently). Where it's good for skiing and snowboarding during the winter haha.

So I'll be gone for the next year...most likely two...so if anyone was looking to hangout before I leave. Give me a call on my cell =)

In the meantime, just working in Berkeley as I normally do.

Man Christmas had awesome weather...ended up going to my sister's place in SF at 7am, opened presents, ate breakfast, and left for home. Settling back home, I decided to go running at the harbor which was super pretty. Nothing but a clear sky, warm sun, and a slight breeze. It was nice.

Later, showered and took a like....3 hr nap haha I was tired from the night before. Headed off to my aunt's house to celebrate my cousin's bday cause it falls on Christmas and had dinner there in Danville. And had fun, playing my aunt and uncle's friend's game....where you add "old soggy wieners" at the end of it. haha I said, "Andrew (my cousin) when you turn on the tv what do you love to watch?" "Old soggy wieners!" The trick was not to smile or laugh when saying that phrase. Overall, interesting haha.

26th? Chilled with Lisa and Ben majority of the day...ran errands, ate good food, and went back to Ranch 99 to get my tea. Went to Justin's kick back party which was chill. Eventually left and came back to my house and the three of us just watched Transformers.

27th (Today) Woke up and started organizing....and currently working on receipts for the past 4 months. Should only take me an hour. After....ummmm iono whatever happens next silly =D

I figure ehh what the heck while I'm in front of the computer.

Saturday: Lisa and I headed off in search for something for Ben since he's due in. We ended up going to Target (when really we shopped for ourselves) and finding something there for Ben. Afterwards I went back over to the Ulferts Center in Dublin cause it pretty good asian food....in which I had been there the day before as well, showing around my friend Joe (he's going to be working San Leandro after he graduates). So, Lisa and I ate over at the Thai Basil which was pretty good and being very fairly priced, I'd say. After that, we headed to Ranch 99 and poked our heads in after having to park pretty far away (it just opened up a few months ago). I did finally find my favorite tea so I'm utterly joyful for that =D. After leaving I had forgotten that Lisa wanted to go to the bakery over in the Ulferts plaza to pick up stuff for her parents and upon doing that we gave people calls about her belated bday dinner that night. Eventually, met up with Johnny and checked out his bachelor pad in Dublin which I thought was pretty sweet. Sooner or later we decided to go home and get ready for the night out in Dublin, by going to Hana Japan...

I have to say that is the WORSE "Japanese Food" that is imaginable....Chinese owned go figure (no offense of cause). But the Miso soup (traditional idea) but wasn't actually miso....and I couldn't make out what exactly it is. Along with the salad to follow....normally Japanese restaurants use  gomi sauce  (sesame dressing)  but this was come completely different (ginger/horse radish...I think?). You can kind of see my point, sauces all wrong/serving new york stake?. Oh by the way, it's one of those cook in front of you places (that part was the interesting part. OH YEAH THE FREAKIN RICE WAS HORRIBLE AND THAT'S THE STEAM RICE>>>I THINK I SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH THE FRIED RICE>>>>WELL>>>STILL WASN"T THE BEST OF CHOICE. Anywho, Hana Japan BAD.

Later, headed back over to Johnny's place for some refreshments *wink wink nudge nudge*. And I later realized that I shouldn't have had that first beer...cause I would have lasted and finished in three minutes in Ultimate Frisbee. Oh well....at least I kinda made it to the toilet....after all of that I cleaned it up (thanks LONG! YOU ARE THE CHAMPION! haha I'm sure you'll read this). The night was what I thought was going to be pretty chill....but got slightly out of control....I didn't think people would get drunk and do silly things...but whatever. I did at one point I was about to put someone in there place do to unnecessary actions while sis was trying to help him drink....but I held myself back....After it all got home around 430am and eventually started the new day.

Sunday (today): Woke up....watched tv...worked out...tried to figure what the plan was for today that I wasn't too familiar with the night before (meaning not knowing the actual place we were going to go). So I eventually, met up at Long's place waited for certain people to flake out on us. Thereby, not too shortly after, Long and I left and headed down to SJ for the Tech Museum exhibit on human, which I thought was SUPER KEWL! We met up with Catherine in it and had stayed for around three hours....man when you're trying to memorize all the information from bone structure, muscle, anatomy, pregnancy, and deathly causes it's definitely going to take up a lot of time. So after or around the second section we  started losing a bit of patiences cause it was taking us forever to get through it all, and had so much to look at, that we loss track of time. But I think I should have eaten before I went into the exhibit, but overall good time.
Afterwards, Long and I headed to go meet up with Matt and Thomas from the night before over in Cupertino. We basically chilled for a little bit, ate, and eventually left before I would get sucked into playing mahjong. So now I am home chilling with my laptop and some good tea =D it's all good in the hood...

So I updated today due to not really realizing that people apparently do read xanga still, so I'll try to come back slowly...I'll try not to make it as long as my really old type of posts, like back in the day....being pages on end.
